Maybe you have been renting for a few years or you bought a home 10+ years ago and you aren’t sure where to start. Believe me, we have all been there and sometimes it’s harder to know where to start than it is to know when to start the home buying process. We are here as a guide and as a teacher to help you understand your options and the steps it takes to purchase a home.
Step One, Finding a local REALTOR®.
We encourage potential clients to interview or meet with several agents. Buying a home is an intimate process and you should feel comfortable and confident in who you will be working with. We want our client to ask questions and to never feel embarrassed to ask them.
Second, Get Pre-Approved.
We have great contacts in the mortgage world that are ready to help you start the pre-approval process. Getting pre-approved for a home loan is important because it will help you better understand what you can afford or how much you want to spend on a monthly mortgage payment. Most of our buyers have found that they are spending the same or less on a mortgage payment than they did on rent..!
Three, Refining your Focus.
Once we know what you’d like to spend on a home we look at price points, locations, and what your wish list is in a new home. We like to remind our clients that it’s good to create a must have list and a wants list. There are somethings that you can live without in a new home, meaning it’s not necessarily a NEED.
Four, Viewing Properties.
As your local and trusted REALTORS® we review your must have list and send you various properties in the price points and locations you are interested in. The homes that catch you attention can be seen in person through scheduling showings with the sellers/seller’s agent. At this moment we encourage our buyers to see as many homes in the first few days so you can figure out what you truly do and not like/need in a home.
Five, Making an Offer.
Once we walk through the doors of a potential new home and you get that feeling, “Ok, this is it”, which you will, and it could take a few weeks or months depending on what you are looking for. You REALTOR® will gather all the contracts to write an offer on the home you would like to purchase. We go through the offer with you and explain everything, so you know exactly what you are signing and writing. We will also go over strategies that you can choose from tot help your offer stand out if we are in multiples.
